Telephone Fraud Alert

Dear colleague

Please be aware of fraudsters hitting on GP practices; schools and social care agencies. One GP practices telephone system was hacked into at the weekend by what we understand to be gangs outside the UK.

This type of fraud is called pbx exchange fraud, or dial through fraud and it involves criminals hacking the internal exchange through the telephone line and then using your system to phone high rate phone numbers.

We understand the fraudsters are targeting small businesses; schools and GP practices especially, so please check your systems.

Please speak to your telephony supplier with any queries.
